About this Webinar:

In this edition of Adapt webinars, we will explore the increasing risks that climate change and extreme weather events pose to power grid resilience.

The large-scale integration of environment-dependent renewable energy sources in decarbonisation efforts may heighten uncertainty in the supply-demand balance, making power grids more vulnerable.

Drawing on historical data, experts will highlight the importance of grid inertia and flexibility in preventing cascading failures. Future climate projections suggest that hazards like tropical cyclones and heatwaves could worsen, resulting in severe infrastructure damage, reduced grid resilience, and longer recovery times.

To address these challenges and support a net-zero future, the episode will explore strategies such as distributed renewables, microgrids, grid-forming inverters, energy storage, and climate-energy integrated modeling to build a more resilient, reliable, and sustainable power grid system.
